West VirginiaThe district board met for a two day retreat to set priorities for its work for 2008-09. We studied member needs as expressed through the 2007 CASE market research study, reviewed input gathered during the 2007-08 independent schools roundtables, and incorporated the emerging strategic priorities of the international CASE organization. You can read the 2008-09 priorities document here. Feel free to contact Board members listed if you have specific questions about any programs. You can reach the board directory here.
While some of the priorities remain the same from year to year (holding the annual conference, recognizing outstanding people and practices through the District awards program), there are some new additions this year:
...in response to member requests for help recruiting andretaining excellent staff, the District will provide special conference programs for: students who are interested in advancement as a career; emerging leaders to help improve their leadership skills; and introductory sessions and mentoring for new professionals. The District Opportunity and Equity committee will be developing programs to reach out to underserved minoritymembers, and the Venture Capital Fund committee will look to fund projects that help members improve staff recruitment and retention.
...a concerted effort to improve communication with District members, so that you can take better advantage of CASE programs and see the value of your membership fees.
...improve District Board operations on a number of fronts, including a renewed effort to have the demographics of the Board more closely align with the demographics of the District.
Given the number of community college andindependent school professionals in the District, we're also working to develop specific conference sessions for those groups, and direct Venture Capital Funding to helpprofessionals whowork at those institutions.
